CRISTIANO RONALDO Notes on his Bazi (八字) birth chart (PART 1)

Applying the principles set forth in the GLOSSARY of the website www.thelifepillars.com and considering the birth chart of the Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo, the first factor to be taken into consideration is the heavenly stem of the day pillar. There are 10 possible heavenly stems, which constitute the yin and yang variants of the five 'elements' of Chinese tradition.In this case, the heavenly stem for Cristiano Ronaldo's birth day pillar is yi 乙, which corresponds to the Personal Element (or Day Master) WOOD YIN. This is the central point of his birth chart.

The notes and observations that follow are intended for people who already have basic knowledge of the Bazi technique. The first and fundamental question that arises when analysing a Bazi chart is whether the context of the energies distributed across the four pillars (year, month, day, and hour of birth) of the chart tends to make the Day Master (‘Personal Element’) stronger or weaker. These two designations should not be interpreted literally, as what we want to know is whether the overall balance of energies present tends to strengthen or nourish the Master of the Day or, conversely, to deplete or attempt to suppress the Day Master's own energy.

At the heart of this judgment are the principles of generating and control, which I explain in the GLOSSARY on the website www.thelifepillars.com. A 'strong' Day Master can be a desirable circumstance if there are factors, either in the birth chart or in the so-called Pillars of Luck (which govern the phases of each person's life), that 'spend' this accumulated energy and, therefore, put the qi 气 back into circulation, preventing its unproductive (and therefore harmful) accumulation.

However, if the 'strong' Day Master does not have around it the factors that make its accumulated energy useful, then this becomes an undesirable circumstance, which can induce various possible contexts of 'bad luck' such as lack of opportunities and visibility and a lot of competition, among other possibilities. In other words, the 'strong' referred to by the masters of the tradition with Bazi is not, in itself, a good or bad situation, depending on the context. A ‘strong’ Day Master does not necessarily correspond to a strong personality, nor is it a harbinger of many opportunities and good luck. It depends!

Conversely, a technically ‘weak’ Day Master may even correspond to a strong personality (see, for example, the case of Barack Obama), provided that this same Day Master has energies around it that nourish it, making it more balanced and, consequently, more prepared to face life's challenges.

In the case of the Bazi chart of football player Cristiano Ronaldo, however, we are faced with an exceptional situation. The principle of equilibrium ceases to apply, unlike in most other cases. In extraordinary cases, such as that of Cristiano Ronaldo, the rationale behind it is different.

Cristiano Ronaldo was born in the month of the Tiger (that is, under the yin 寅 earthly branch), which is the first solar month of the cosmic season of ‘spring’ (chuntian 春天), which corresponds to the Wood element, quite strengthened in this cosmic season. Consequently, his Day Master is classified, right away, as ‘strong’.

However, this is not enough for us to classify this chart as extraordinary. Continuing to study its composition, we find that the green colour (Wood) has a significant presence in the diagram that accompanies this text, in addition to the light brown colour, which represents the Earth element. The difference is that, during the (cosmic) season of Cristiano Ronaldo's birth, Wood was strong while Earth was weak. Consequently, the presence of Wood tends to be dominant. It is true that Earth, which is controlled by Wood, tends to use some of the Day Master's energy, forcing it to make an extra effort to control the Earth.

But the presence of Water (blue colour) in the Bazi chart further reinforces Wood, which is already quite strong during the cosmic spring, as I have already had the opportunity to mention.

When a situation like this occurs, despite the significant presence of Earth, the hypothesis begins to arise that we are facing a Day Master classified as "extremely strong". When this is the case, the first question that arises is: what kind of presence does the Metal element (grey colour) have in this chart? The reason is that Metal tends to control Wood, and as such, its expressive presence would make it impossible for Wood to become hegemonic in this chart. Actually, the presence of Metal is quite discreet in this chart, limited to appearing as a minor component of the earthly branch of the birth year, which is chou 丑, that is, the Ox. Consequently, Wood has a clear path to becoming the hegemonic force in the chart, without significant challenge.

Thus, we can classify this chart as corresponding to what Bazi masters call the 'Follow the Trend' type of chart. Bazi charts of this type tend to possess a great capacity to face and overcome difficulties. These charts are highly compatible with success, as their owners can do what many attempt, though rarely succeed.
